THOR Solutions is actively seeking a Submarine LAN Technician to support the Submarine Technical Support Center (STSC) at Naval Submarine Base Groton (NSB Groton) in Groton, CT.
The ideal candidate will possess significant experience supporting U.
S.
Navy submarine networks on LOS ANGELES and VIRGINIA class submarines as an Information Systems Technician, Submarines (ITS).
Typical Responsibilities: The technician’s responsibilities may include (but aren’t limited to): Serve as authority for direct fleet technical support concerning submarine networks/LANs and IA processes.
Provide administrative and technical support, system training, and monitoring of submarine networks.
Train, guide, and support LAN administrators in submarine network maintenance and administration procedures.
Conduct and support assessments of LAN administration capabilities, and provide recommendations and training based upon findings.
Provide associated support for non-submarine clients, laptops, and workstations.
Support assessments, inspections, tests, and ship checks as required.
Work Location: Full time onsite in Groton, CT.
Travel Requirements: Up to 10% travel is anticipated.
Typical Physical Activity: Desk/computer work in an office environment.
May involve: repetitive motion.
Hands-on technical and instructor work in a waterfront/shipboard environment.
May involve: repetitive motion, talking, traversing shipboard environments (e.
g.
, confined spaces, ladders, hatches), or vision.
TOP SECRET Security Clearance Required: This position requires an existing TOP SECRET DoD security clearance.
A qualified candidate must already possess an active or interim TOP SECRET security clearance (or above) and maintain it for the duration of employment.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: High school diploma/GED equivalent or relevant military “C” school.
Qualified as Information Assurance Technical Level II (IAT II) in accordance with DOD 8570.
1 Cyber Workforce (CWF) requirements.
To qualify, must hold at least one of the following certificates.
A copy of your qualifying certification must be provided during the hiring process: Certified Network Defender (CND) Cisco Certified Network Associate-Security (CCNA-Security) CompTIA Cybersecurity Analyst+ (CySA+) CompTIA Security+ CE (Sec+) GIAC Security Essentials Certification (GSEC) Global Industrial Cyber Security Professional (GICSP) Systems Security Certified Practitioner (SSCP) At least five (5), and ideally ten (10) years, of technical experience aboard or supporting U.
S.
Navy submarines.
Overall experience should include: Five (5) years of experience in the operation and/or maintenance of computer-controlled equipment used to perform tests, simulations, or real time operations such as installed forward control systems, onboard U.
S.
Navy submarines.
Three (3) years of experience in the installation, testing, and maintenance of advanced information technology equipment and/or major network administration systems on U.
S.
Navy submarines.
Submarine-focused experience with: Submarine Local Area Networks (SUBLAN) Naval Tactical Command Support System (NTCSS) Host Based Security System (HBSS) Navy Information Application Product Suite (NIAPS).
Experience and familiarity with U.
S.
Navy Information Assurance (IA) processes, procedures, and regulations.
Strong proficiency with common productivity software including the Microsoft Office suite and Adobe Acrobat.
Strong communication skills.
