As the Associate Director of Development, School of Medicine, you will be the frontline fundraiser focused on generating philanthropic support for the school by promoting an active culture of philanthropy and achieving annual and campaign-related fundraising goals.
You will manage a caseload of current and prospective major-gift level donors and utilize a multitude of engagement strategies to solicit them for gifts to the school.
In this role, you will: Serve as the academic unit lead and work in close collaboration with deans and key faculty, staff, alumni, and volunteers to achieve each school’s goals and priorities through philanthropy.
Cultivate, solicit, and steward a caseload of current and prospective donors; meet or exceed annual and campaign goals.
Create annual written strategic action plans for best prospects with intent of deepening relationships that lead to increased comprehensive giving including annual, major, and deferred gifts.
Foster strong working relationships with Foundation colleagues, adhering to Prospect Management Guidelines and providing timely and appropriate documentation of interactions and solicitations.
Partner with the Senior AVP of Development for Health Sciences, deans, directors, department heads, and members of the faculty and staff within assigned constituencies to manage donor and prospect activity and translate university priorities into fundraising plans and goals.
Actively participate in the Academic Unit Lead (AUL) group at the Foundation.
Articulate fundraising plans and goals to central development staff to broadly engage the Foundation’s fundraising staff and ensure activities are aligned.
Work with Prospect Management to review caseload assignments; track, analyze, and report on progress against goals; complete quarterly reports; and recommend enhancements to increase operational efficiencies, improve communication, and increase donor engagement.
Assemble and engage collaborative teams of staff and volunteers to implement engagement and solicitation strategies.
Create opportunities to engage key volunteers and University leadership in the cultivation, and where appropriate, the solicitation of current and potential donors.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Experience and Skills To be successful in this role, you should: Demonstrate the ability to personally solicit major gifts in the amount of $50,000+.

Have strong written and verbal communications skills, including ability to effectively communicate University priorities to donors and prospects, and to positively represent the University and Foundation.
Be adept in the use of computers and information management tools.
Be able to handle multiple tasks, to assess and order priorities, and to track details in a fast-paced environment.
Demonstrate strategic, leadership and management capabilities in a comprehensive development environment; high level of motivation and assertiveness.

Be able to work to the demands of the position, which may exceed a 40-hour work week.
Be willing to travel extensively.
Reliable personal transportation is required for this position.
Must possess a valid driver’s license issued from state in which employee resides.
Employee must maintain at their expense, automobile liability insurance coverage in the minimum amount of $500,000 or a combination of umbrella and automobile liability insurance coverage of $500,000.
A certificate of automobile insurance evidencing the limit, must be provided to the Foundation at hire and annually thereafter.
Must be willing to consent to a background check, conducted and approved by UConn Health, to obtain staff access to UConn Health’s buildings.

Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
3+ years of experience in fundraising and/or relevant transferable skills.
Previous medical field exposure/knowledge preferred but not required.
Competence in Microsoft Office suite and donor management systems.
Salary: The expected salary for this position is $70,000+.
It will be commensurate with qualifications and experience, while also placing an emphasis on internal equity.
